Soprano Jill Pearon Presents Faculty Recital at Crane School

Soprano Jill Pearon will present a concert on Sept. 21 at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music.

POTSDAM, NY (09/08/2011)(readMedia)-- Soprano Jill Pearon will headline a faculty recital at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music alongside tenor Lonel Woods and Kirk Severtson on piano. The concert will be offered at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.

The recital will contain songs by Gustav Mahler and Henri Duparc, as well as contemporary composer Tom Cipullo. The Cipullo set, "Of a Certain Age," was composed in 2009 and features the poetry of Liesel Mueller and Judith Baumel. The composer said of the work, "the songs offer a mature perspective on love, loss, aging and what it means to be a 21st century woman 'of a certain age.'"

Dr. Pearon holds degrees from the University of Evansville, Southern Methodist University and the University of Michigan, where she received her doctorate, having studied with professionals such as Shirley Verrett, Martin Katz, Lorna Haywood and Robin Rice. She has performed in opera, recital and concert venues across the United States and in Europe. She specializes in creating unique themed recital programs often incorporating staged, costumed and visual components. Additionally, she has a particular interest in 20th century and chamber music and has premiered several new works. Pearon has previously held faculty positions at Capital University, Kenyon College and Southern Methodist University. She has been honored to present masterclasses from Massachusetts to California.

This concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
