Sparta Residents Robert and Suzanne Currey Receive Oglethorpe University's Spirit of Oglethorpe Award

ATLANTA, GA (04/18/2013)(readMedia)-- Sparta residents and Oglethorpe University alumni Robert Currey '66 and Suzanne Currey '65 will be presented with the Spirit of Oglethorpe Award during Oglethorpe University's Alumni Weekend, April 19-21, 2013.

The Spirit of Oglethorpe Award is presented to alumni who live by the Oglethorpe motto "Make a life. Make a living. Make a difference." and demonstrate the attributes of a liberal arts education through creativity, purposefulness and a commitment to improving the quality of the community.

The Curreys founded two successful furniture store chains early in their careers. More recently, the Curreys founded Elm Street Gardens, a no-till sustainable market garden, in Sparta, Ga.

Oglethorpe University was founded in 1835 and enrolls 1,100 students representing 34 states and 28 countries. Oglethorpe is a member of the Annapolis Group, an organization of America's most selective liberal arts institutions. For seven consecutive years, Oglethorpe has been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for commitment to and achievement in community service. In 2010, Oglethorpe was named among U.S. News & World Report's Best Liberal Arts Colleges and Forbes' America's Best Colleges. Princeton Review named Oglethorpe a Best Southeastern College, ranking it in four national top-20 lists (Professors Get High Marks, Classroom Discussion Encouraged, Lots of Race/Class Interaction and Best College Theatre).
