Springfield resident Ashley Sarver stars in Olivet's production of "The Music Man"

BOURBONNAIS, IL (02/07/2014)(readMedia)-- Ashley Sarver of Springfield stars as Eulalie MacKecknie Shinn in Olivet Nazarene University's production of "The Music Man" - the award-winning and well-loved musical - February 27 to March 1. She is a junior majoring in journalism.

"The Music Man" is the first musical written and composed by Meredith Willson. The story was written by him with Franklin Lacey. Book, music and lyrics are by Willson. The original Broadway production opened in 1957 with revivals in 1980 and 2000. The film adaptation debuted in 1962, and a made-for-television adaptation first aired in 2003. Well-known songs from the production include: "Good Night My Someone," "76 Trombones," "Wells Fargo Wagon," "Gary, Indiana," and "Till There Was You."

Show times are Thursday, February 27, at 7 p.m.; Friday, February 28, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, March 1, at 2 and 7 p.m. All shows are on stage in Kresge Auditorium in Larsen Fine Arts Center on Olivet's campus. Jerry Cohagan, theatre professor, directs with Dr. Neal Woodruff, music professor, as music director; Kay Welch, music professor, as vocal director; and Hannah Jacobson as choreographer.
