State DOT Advises Motorists to Check Route Before Traveling This Labor Day Weekend

ALBANY, NY (09/02/2011)(readMedia)-- New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Commissioner Joan McDonald today advised motorists to obey detour signs and barriers while traveling this weekend and to check road and bridge conditions before leaving, to avoid flooded road closures.

Motorists can get the latest information on road closures and travel conditions by dialing 511 on their telephones or visiting http://www.511ny.org before traveling.

Bridge and highway conditions in flooded areas are continuing to change. While many roadways are being reopened, many others remain closed due to flooding and storm damage. The following New York State bridge and highway closures were in effect as of 1 p.m. today:

BRIDGE CLOSURES

NYSDOT Region 1 – Capital Region

Albany County

• Route 81 over Catskill Creek closed, Rensselaerville

• Route 443/156 bridge over Fox Creek, Town of Berne

• Route 443 Bridge over Fox Creek near Line Road, Town of East Berne
