State DOT Slates Hearing On Sherwood Trail Rail Crossing Request

June 12 Hearing in Kenmore to Focus on County Plan for a New Crossing

ALBANY, NY (05/25/2012)(readMedia)-- The New York State Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 12, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in Kenmore, Erie County, regarding Erie County's request that a public, at-grade rail crossing be established for the Sherwood Trail in the Town of Tonawanda, Erie County.

NYSDOT Acting Chief Administrative Law Judge Robert A. Rybak will preside over the hearing at the Tonawanda Municipal Building, 2919 Delaware Avenue, Kenmore, NY, 14217. The hearing will establish a record and enable a determination as to whether the establishment of such a crossing is necessary. The NYSDOT case number for the request is 38634.

Erie County on May 8, 2012, requested the hearing because it is seeking approval to construct an at-grade bicycle and pedestrian crossing of a CSX railroad line. The crossing would help complete the Sherwood Trail, an approximately 8.3-mile link between the Riverwalk Trail and the Two Mile Creek Greenway Trail. The crossing would be located on the Sherwood Trail in CSX Transportation Inc.'s Wonalancet Running Track subdivision, which is in the right-of-way of Kenmore Avenue/County Route 189 in the vicinity of highway mile post 2.61.

Please contact NYSDOT's Office of Proceedings (518-457-1182) if a sign language interpreter, an assistive listening system or any other accommodations will be required to facilitate participation in this hearing.
