State DOT Slates Public Hearing on Rayhill Trail Rail Crossing

May 15 Hearing to Focus on Petition to Establish New Crossing for Rayhill Trail Extension

ALBANY, NY (05/07/2012)(readMedia)-- The New York Sate Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on Tuesday May 15, beginning at 10 a.m. in New Hartford, Oneida County, regarding a request by the Town of New Hartford and the Village of New York Mills to establish a new, public at-grade crossing of the New York, Susquehanna & Western Railway for the Philip Rayhill Recreational Trail extension.

This trail will establish a connection from the Village of New York Mills and Pietryka Park along the Sauquoit Creek corridor to existing pedestrian and bike trails in the towns of New Hartford and Whitestown. The trail will allow for the off-highway movement of people and provide opportunities for local residents and visitors to enjoy the educational, recreational and environmental facilities along the trail corridor.

The public hearing will be held before the Honorable Robert A. Rybak, acting chief administrative law judge, New York State Department of Transportation, at Butler Memorial Hall, 48 Genesee Street, New Hartford, NY 13413.

The hearing will establish a record and enable a determination as to whether the establishment of a crossing is in the public interest and, if so, the design of such a crossing.

Parties are requested to advise the Office of Proceedings at (518) 457-1182 if a sign language interpreter, assistive listening system or any other accommodations will be required to facilitate their participation in this hearing.
