ALBANY, NY (08/11/2011)(readMedia)-- In response to the release of the U.S. Secretary of Energy Advisory Board Shale Gas Production Subcommittee 90-day report, Environmental Advocates of New York released the following statement:
"The Department of Energy report on fracking recognizes the real and dangerous consequences of industrial gas drilling by means of hydraulic fracturing or 'fracking,' and as such it includes recommendations that would do much to protect our waters and communities.
By calling for full disclosure of toxic fracking fluids, intensive on-site monitoring of air pollution, and a full analysis of the climate-altering greenhouse gas emissions that result from shale gas development, the report echoes the calls of experts and advocates nationwide. New York's Department of Environmental Conservation has included some of these recommendations in its preliminary revised draft drilling guidelines, but the report released today is further proof of how much more there is to be done."
