Stephen Brazeau of Huntington Station & a mainstay of Hope House honored as Saint Michael's College 2011 Alumnus of the Year

COLCHESTER, VT (06/22/2011)(readMedia)-- Saint Michael's College named Huntington Station resident Stephen Brazeau Alumnus of the Year at ceremonies held at the Vermont college on June 11. Mr. Brazeau, a 1991 graduate of Saint Michael's, celebrating his 20th anniversary of graduation, was cited for rare dedication, serving those in need by working at Hope House on Long Island since his graduation from college.

As a student Mr. Brazeau was on the cross-country running team and served as an RA (resident assistant), and immediately following graduation, joined Hope House, having been recruited by Father Francis Pizzarelli director of that program. Hope House serves as a homeless shelter, committed to improving the lives of the poor, particularly young people, families in crisis, pregnant mothers, and all those who are abandoned or neglected. The program is run by the Montfort society of Priests.

Stephen Brazeau keeps Saint Michael's College connected to Hope House

Stephen Brazeau has kept the connection between Hope House and Saint Michael's College strong by encouraging Saint Michael's students to volunteer with the program, and by occasionally hiring Saint Michael's graduates to work there. He has been instrumental in organizing SMC student volunteer work at Hope House, arranging their site visits, work, and housing. Mr. Brazeau also invites the SMC student volunteers to his home at the beginning of the week for dinner, and then shares a meal and reflections with the Saint Michael's crew at the end of the week.

Through his efforts, Saint Michael's students and staff have seen first-hand the effects of homelessness, learned the true meaning of compassion, and ways to positively affect the lives of those less fortunate.

Mr. Brazeau has served the Saint Michael's alumni program by working on reunion committees for his class, and by encouraging attendance and participation in the class gift.

Stephen and his wife Denise Brazeau live in Huntington Station, with their children, Cosette and Fern.

"For continuing to live the mission of Saint Michael's in his daily life, and for his contributions to the MOVE Office and to the lives of students and staff he has impacted for the past 20 years, the Saint Michael's College Alumni Association is very proud to name Stephen Brazeau a 2011 Alumnus of the Year," said Angela Armour, SMC Director of Alumni and Parent Relations.
