HOUGHTON, MI (03/25/2013)(readMedia)-- Ellen Nightingale, a second-year civil engineering student from Stevensville, has been awarded a $1,000 Molitoris Leadership Scholarship through WTS, the international organization to advance women in the transportation industry.
The scholarship is awarded for academic success, pursuit of a transportation engineering career, and leadership roles. Nightingale was awarded the scholarship at a recent dinner in Hartland.
"By having the opportunity to dine, hear their experiences, and see their successes, I am inspired even more to continue my studies in transportation," Nightingale says. "I now know more about the practical possibilities available with my education. I hope that other young women out there seize the many opportunities becoming available for them, not only in transportation, but in many STEM career fields. WTS is one of those groups that are making possibilities into realities for women. I am very thankful for the scholarship!"
Nightingale attended Lakeshore High School in the Math and Science Center. She also worked as a summer intern at the Michigan Department of Transportation Office in Benton Harbor.
