Subaru: Best Friend

CANTON, CONN. (10/04/2012)(readMedia)-- Subaru often calls on the talents of man's best friend for its advertisements, and that approach continues in the first of what is sure to be many commercials for the new Subaru XV Crosstrek compact crossover. With models now on sale at dealerships, the 2013 XV Crosstrek in the ad is positioned as a loyal friend to its owner, much like his gracefully aging pooch.

Subaru's new commercial opens with a silver XV Crosstrek pulling up to a cabin in the woods, where a twenty-something man gets out with a chocolate lab puppy in tow. The same shot repeats itself twice more as the man first finds love and then has a child. Meanwhile, the dog goes from puppy to full-grown to aged, as the Subaru remains unchanged. Long on emotion and short on dialogue, the only spoken words in the commercial say: "We're lucky. It's not every day you find a companion as loyal as a Subaru. Love. It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru."

"Subaru has a great reputation for dependability, and the new XV Crosstrek commercial does a great job of tugging at the heartstrings to tout that fact," said Gary Ciesco, general sales manager of Canton, CT Subaru dealer Mitchell Subaru. "Many of our customers treat their Subarus like a member of the family, so comparing the XV Crosstrek to a faithful dog isn't too far from reality."

Based on the Subaru Impreza hatchback, the XV Crosstrek is the newest member of the Subaru family. The compact crossover is a strong candidate for those looking to get off the beaten path without draining their wallet at the gas pump, featuring an increased ride height and durable body cladding that can shrug off trail-side debris and swinging car doors.

Key to the Subaru XV Crosstrek's off-road prowess and highway efficiency is its 2.0-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine, which produces 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. Available with a continuously variable transmission or a five-speed manual gearbox, the XV Crosstrek can return up to 33 mpg on the highway while still providing all-conditions capability with its standard all-wheel drive.

Offering 8.7 inches of ground clearance, a number that rivals that of much larger vehicles, as well as roughly 52 cubic feet of cargo space with the back seats folded flat, the XV Crosstrek is well equipped to hit the slopes in the winter and the beach in the summer. Other convenient features include integrated tie-down hooks in the cargo area and a six-way adjustable driver's seat that ensures an ideal fit for people of all shapes and sizes.

"It's a tough job to create a vehicle that can tackle both the urban jungle and off-road trails, but Subaru has managed to do it with the XV Crosstrek," Ciesco noted. "It is a great vehicle for city dwellers that like to get away on the weekends, or just for value-conscious car buyers that want a capable, dependable vehicle that will stick by them through thick and thin."
