DES MOINES, IA (07/30/2012)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Suzie Glazer Burt of Des Moines as an Iowan of the Day for the 2012 Iowa State Fair.
Burt has not only contributed funds to numerous charitable organizations, she has donated countless volunteer hours in her community and across Iowa. She served many leadership positions on the Hospice of Central Iowa Foundation and was vital to the expansion construction of the Kavanagh House. She has been very involved as a volunteer and contributing to the Boys and Girls Club of Des Moines.
Burt has demonstrated great leadership through her position as the Des Moines Art Center's Board of Directors and volunteered to help flood victim relief. Additionally, she contributed to LIVE United 2009 United Way challenge, in honor of her late mother, Maddie Levitt. As the past chair of Variety Club of Iowa, Burt was involved in planning and coordinating many successful campaigns.
"Suzie has lead with her heart to give unselfishly of her time, talent and resources to enrich the state of Iowa," said Ellie Ziegler, Burt's nominator. Burt's generosity and leadership make her an excellent Iowan of the Day.
Burt's day of recognition will be Saturday, August 18 at the 2012 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, she will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Burt will also receive a special introduction at 2:15 p.m. August 18 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $85 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
