Syracuse New York Army National Guard Unit Holds Open House

SYRACUSE, NY (11/09/2009)(readMedia)-- Headquarters Company of the 427th Brigade Support Battalion will hold a community open house at the Thompson Road Armory on Saturday, Nov. 14.

WHO: Soldiers of Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 427th Brigade Support Command and the company Family Readiness Group.

WHAT: Unit Open House, with an opportunity to observe Soldiers training, examine vehicles and tactical equipment, speak to Soldiers about the unit and also talk to family members who belong to the Family Readiness Group.

WHEN: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009

WHERE: 6900 Thompson Road, Syracuse, NY 13211-1300. The Thompson Road Gate will be in use for this event.

Coverage Opportunities:

Interviews Soldiers about the mission of the battalion and its role in supporting troops in combat. Visual opportunities will Soldiers training, visitors inspection equipment.

BACKGROUND:

Unit Open House:

The Open House displays military vehicles, weapons and tactical equipment. Attendees will have the opportunity to observe soldiers while they train. Homemade baked goods and snacks will be on sale. The event also features a raffle and free face painting.

Family Programs representatives will be on hand. All attendees must show proper identification at the gate. Parking and admission is free.

The 427th Brigade Support Battalion:

The soldiers of Headquarters Company were mobilized for deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in January 2008. They were assigned to the Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix VII, led by the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. They conducted missions at a number of Forward Operating Bases, or FOBs. They were assigned to train the Afghan National army and the Afghan National Police, or they provided security for logistical convoys throughout the country.
