ATLANTA, GA (06/27/2012)(readMedia)-- Teal Sherer, a 2003 graduate of Oglethorpe University, was awarded the Young Alumni Award during Oglethorpe's 2012 Alumni Weekend gala awards ceremony. The Young Alumni Award recognizes a graduate of the last 10 years who has shown leadership and inspired other young alumni through participation in career, public service, volunteer or continuing education activities.

Sherer, originally from Knoxville, Tenn. discovered her talent and love for performing while at Oglethorpe . She acted in many college theatre productions, such as The House of Bernarda Alba and Antigone. Teal also performed with Full Radius Dance Company, which is a physically integrated (using dancers with and without disabilities) professional modern dance company. After Teal graduated from Oglethorpe she was cast in her first Hollywood film, HBO's Emmy Award winning Warm Springs, starring Kenneth Branagh, Cynthia Nixon, and Kathy Bates.

In addition to acting and producing, Teal has also taught dance and drama classes to children with disabilities. Teal is an activist for the inclusion of performers with disabilities in the entertainment industry and is a member of the Screen Actors Guild Performers with Disabilities Committee.

Some of Teal's career highlights so far include: performing alongside Dustin Hoffman and Annette Bening in American Voices at The Broad Stage, producing and starring in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play Proof, playing "Venom" in Felicia Day's hit web series The Guild, and starring in a popular Liberty Mutual voting commercial. Currently, Teal is producing a web series she created and stars in called My Gimpy Life. Season one premiered in June on Youtube! (www.MyGimpyLife.com).
