Teens travel to Albany for Get the Facts NY Youth Conference

(Albany, NY March 16, 2009) Teenagers from around the state will meet at the Empire State Plaza today for advocacy training as part of their work to raise awareness of reproductive health issues affecting young people.

The day's schedule of events in ESP meeting rooms is as follows:

10:30 a.m. Welcome by Tracey Brooks, Family Planning Advocates president and CEO

11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Workshop (Meeting Rm. 6) Using Internet Tools to Spread the Word

Using Myspace and Twitter to advance advocacy and education efforts.

12:30-1:30 p.m. Keynote Address by Shelby Knox, 22-year-old feminist and activist

Knox travels nationwide as a speaker and organizer with a specialization in

developing youth leaders.

1:30-2:30 p.m. Workshops:

  • Organizing 101 (Meeting Rm. 4)

Learn the basics of effectively organizing successful events.

  • Know Your Rights (Meeting Rm. 5)

Knowing your rights is the first step in standing up for them.

Speakers will be available for media interviews.

Family Planning Advocates of New York State is a non-profit, statewide organization dedicated to protecting and expanding access to a full range of reproductive health care services.
