ALBANY, NY (03/27/2013)(readMedia)-- The Business Council of New York State, Inc. announces its next Technology Roundtable at The Desmond Hotel and Conference Center in Albany, Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Facebook, Microsoft and Verizon are series sponsors. Time Warner Cable is the Premiere Sponsor of this hour-long event: Broadband Deployment in New York State: Economic Growth Through Expanded Connectivity. Charles M. Davidson, Director, Advanced Communications Law & Policy Institute, New York Law School, will be the guest speaker.

Davidson will discuss whether the state government is playing the appropriate role in expanding service. He will also share with attendees the innovative measures the telecommunications industry is taking to expand connectivity and address how wider connectivity would benefit the state and the nation economically and socially.

Although New York's availability rate is approximately 96 percent, the number of New York citizens without access to high-speed Internet is more than the entire population of Vermont, 700,000 people. According to the New York State Broadband Program office, if all homes had basic broadband services, the U.S. economy would gain 1.2 million jobs and $500 billion per year.

The Technology Roundtable is a luncheon seminar series that serves as a central resource for our members and the greater technology sector in New York for news on state and federal policies, events and other industry developments. Each meeting will feature a speaker on a topic of interest as well as industry updates, and an open discussion forum.

Registration fees for Business Council members are $35; future members, $45.
