The Business Council of New York State appointed to Tax Relief Commission

ALBANY, NY (10/02/2013)(readMedia)-- Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced Heather C. Briccetti, Esq., president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State, has been appointed to the newly formed Tax Relief Commission.

"Taxes are a defining factor impacting the state's economic performance," Heather C. Briccetti, Esq., president and CEO of The Business Council of New York State said. "The Business Council welcomes the opportunity to participate in this effort to relieve the burden of property taxes, which cost business in the state more than $17 billion each year, and review the long list of other taxes that are unduly burdensome to business."

At a news conference this morning at Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y., the Governor charged the panel with focusing on ways to reduce the property tax burden for both businesses and residential property owners and to review and identify any other taxes that are "unduly burdensome to business."

The panel will be headed by former Governor George Pataki and former Comptroller H. Carl McCall.

The Governor said he anticipates a slight budget surplus in fiscal year 13-14, growing to $4 billion over 16-17 and 17-18 budgets.
