The Business Council to host its Annual Meeting at The Sagamore Resort
ALBANY, NY (09/21/2011)(readMedia)-- The Business Council will be holding its Annual Meeting from Sept.21 - 23 at The Sagamore Resort on Lake George.
The meeting will focus on The Business Council's 2012 legislative priorities, which include working with the governor and legislature to provide, mandate relief to local governments, repealing anti-growth taxes to bring private sector jobs growth to New York.
On Thursday morning, Sept. 21, The Business Council will announce a new chair of the board of directors.
The Public Policy Institute, the research arm of The Business Council, will unveil a new report during the meeting.
Attendees will get the opportunity to hear from a number of keynote and special guest speakers from business and state government leadership positions. Guests will enjoy remarks from the following highly-distinguished individuals:
- Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy;
- Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver;
- Senator George Maziarz;
- Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb;
- Host of Fox News' Varney & Company, Stuart Varney; and
- Former Congressman Thomas Reynolds and long-time Albany insider, Bruce Gyory, who will lead a discussion on demographic and redistricting trends and examine the playoff between the rise of independent voters in upstate and the growth of the minority vote throughout New York. The focus will be primarily on the 9th and 26th congressional districts.
The Business Council's Regional Economic Development Panel will convene on Friday morning, Sept. 23. Much of the focus will be on The Business Council's fall agenda. Panelists will include business leaders from across the state, some of whom are co-chairs on Governor Cuomo's Regional Economic Development Councils:
- Anthony Collins, President of Clarkson University;
- Marsha Gordon, president and CEO of The Business Council of Westchester;
- Desmond Ryan, executive director of the Association for a Better Long Island;
- Paul Speranza, general counsel and secretary of Wegmans Food Markets, Inc.;
- G. Thomas Tranter, president of Corning Enterprises, Corning Incorporated;
- F. Michael Tucker, president and CEO, Center for Economic Growth; and
- Randy Wolken, President of the Manufacturers Association of Central New York.
Also scheduled for Friday morning is a presentation by Michael Fallon, a principal of Hinmaun Straub, P.C., on the 2011 ethics law and its impact on business advocacy.
Exhibitors at the Annual Meeting will have the chance to network with colleagues and promote their business to other members.
