The Capital Comes to New York's Capital Downtown

ALBANY, NY (08/13/2013)(readMedia)-- The City of Albany and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) will hold an official ribbon cutting for The Capital American Eatery and Lounge on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at 5:00 PM at 55 North Pearl Street. Mayor Gerald D. Jennings, Georgette Steffens, Executive Director, Downtown Albany (BID) and Chris Pratt, Co-Owner, The Capital American Eatery and Lounge are tentatively scheduled to speak at the event. The media and public are encouraged to attend. Immediately following the ceremony, guests are invited to an open house reception that will include: food samplings, wine tastings and onsite vendor demonstrations, including a Saranac Brewery trip give-a-way. The new establishment will continue the open house for the public beginning on Thursday evening through Saturday, August 17, 2013.

"Seeing the reinvestment and commitment made by these business owners makes this ribbon cutting even more special," said Mayor Gerald D. Jennings, "It is expansions like this that continue to add to the draw of our Capital City and serve all those that live, work and visit."

Co-owners, Chris Pratt, Alessio Depoli and Dawn Lynch officially opened The Capital on July 30, 2013. Pratt and Depoli also own The Pearl Street Pub (PSP) in downtown Albany and The Barrel Saloon in the warehouse district. Lynch manages all three locations.

"My partners and I truly believe in downtown Albany and the vibrant benefits of City living," explains Pratt, "I see the plans for new residential and I get excited. As an advocate for Downtown my partners and I have invested over $75,000 of our own money into the renovation of this new concept. I am optimistic and encouraged about our future on North Pearl Street."

According to the owners, the new restaurant's concept design caters to a mature, professional crowd. Additionally, The Capital's menu features New York State craft beer and wine as well as local meats, cheeses and breads. The décor and furnishings include artwork from local artist Sampson Contompasis.

"Our District's stakeholders understand the opportunity the expanding residential community presents," said Georgette Steffens, Executive Director, Downtown Albany BID, "It is also exciting to see their commitment to local food and beverages as well as art through their expanding offerings."
