NEW ROCHELLE, NY (10/07/2011)(readMedia)-- Dr. Nancy Kehoe, RSCJ, a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart, will deliver a lecture entitled Spirituality and Mental Health: A Path to Wholeness, on October 19, 2011, in Maura Hall on the Main Campus of The College of New Rochelle.
Dr. Kehoe is a clinical psychologist who has for more than twenty-eight years led patient groups in the discussion of their religious beliefs and their role in treatment. She has sought to integrate spirituality and psychotherapy. Spirituality, according to Dr. Kehoe, is the "last taboo" in psychotherapy, but is a profound natural resource for strength and healing for all persons who seek meaning in their lives.
An adjunct professor at Harvard Medical School and the author of the 2009 book, Wrestling With Our Inner Angels: Faith, Mental Illness, and the Journey to Wholeness. The book draws on both Sister Kehoe's experience in conducting group counseling sessions for persons with mental illness and in training professionals how to understand the role of religious beliefs in the lives of their clients.
This event, sponsored by the National Association of Social Workers, is free and open to the public. For further information, contact Dr. Susan A. Conte, OSU at sconte@cnr.edu.
