ALBANY, NY (02/04/2013)(readMedia)-- "This is ballsy, textured, musical storytelling, with exhilarating derring-do in both literary and musical execution; the fraught drama spins out in time signature-shifting progressive, anthemic rock, and woodsy folk."
- Robert Burke Warren, Chronogram, November 2011
The Linda, WAMC's Performing Arts Studio, presents the rock opera A Wall Street Odyssey: The City, the Country and Back Again. The event is an electrifying evening of music, film, and theater and marks The Linda's first performance of a rock opera on its stage.
In the grand tradition of the The Who's Tommy and Quadrophenia, and Green Day's American Idiot, the band Epigene presents a new rock opera for the 21st century, featuring a healthy dose of greed, desire, despair and redemption. Complete with live music, costumes, narration and videos on a giant screen, A Wall Street Odyssey describes the path of investment banker Yossarian (from Joseph Heller's seminal book, Catch 22) who is "reborn as a burned out stockbroker on a path of self-destruction, rebirth and transcendence."
A culmination of songwriter Sean Bigler's 3+ years of research and musical inspiration, A Wall Street Odyssey's 25 songs express a wide range of styles within the progressive pop/rock genre and are packed with exceptionally strong songwriting and vocal melodies. Rock, electro-clash, psychedelic folk, afro-pop, new wave and even IDM are used to advance the plot and create the many moods of the recording.
Since last year, the album has been transformed into a multi-media experience performed entirely by Epigene, the husband-wife musical team of Seattle natives Sean Bigler and Bonnie Lykes. The duo partnered musically in the year 2000, joining the talents of Bigler on vocals, electric & acoustic guitars, bass, keyboards, and synthesizer and Bonnie Lykes on vocals, keyboards, synthesizer and vocoder. The couple first premiered A Wall Street Odyssey on August 23, 2012 in Kingston, NY and has since performed the show at select venues throughout the Northeast.
Join us for a modern hero's journey in what Vanity Fair called "The Catchiest Economic-Crisis Rock Opera This Side of Wall Street." A Wall Street Odyssey captures the growing unrest and distrust of the government in the post 9-11 era, and is truly a tale of our times.
