Film will be followed by a special guest panel with Director Jon Bowermaster, musical director Natalie Merchant and Dr. Alan Chartock.
An election may stir a nation, but no subject in New York State has generated more emotion and passion than the looming possibility of hydrofracking. Last May, more than a dozen musicians, actors, performers and activists came together in a call-to-arms against fracking for an all-star rally and performance at The Egg in Albany. The documentary "Dear Governor Cuomo" captures the entire evening, and its title refers to an open letter to Cuomo, read by actor Mark Ruffalo, asking the politician to maintain the state's moratorium on fracking.
The concert and rally drew musicians who call New York home and are concerned about the effects of gas wells on their land, air, and water. Spearheaded by musician-activist Natalie Merchant, the event also featured Joan Osborne, Dan Zanes, M'Shell Ndegeocello, Citizen Cope, Medeski, Martin & Wood, John Sebastian, Toshi Reagon, and The Horseflies. Ruffalo was joined on the stage by prominent anti-fracking activists and actors, including Pete Seeger and Melissa Leo in a sharing of facts, figures and startling testimony from those who have been personally touched by hydrofracking.
Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy an evening of moving performances and a conversation about this compelling issue with film maker Jon Bowermaster, musical director Natalie Merchant and WAMC's President and CEO Dr. Alan Chartock.
