ALBANY, NY (10/06/2010)(readMedia)-- Hoffman Warnick LLC (HW), an intellectual property law firm based in Albany, NY with another office in Rochester, NY, has released the Tech Valley Patent Indices for Third Quarter 2010. The "Tech Valley Patent Indices" include data for: the Capital Region (Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga and Rensselaer counties), Tech Valley, Tech Valley without IBM and GE, and the Capital Region without GE.

In the third quarter, evidence of the Patent Office's attempts to attack their backlog continues to be evident in the very high patent issuances for all of the Tech Valley Patent Indices. "There is a really awesome indicator of Tech Valley success in this quarter's numbers: the Tech Valley Patent Index that excludes IBM and GE set yet another record" stated Spencer Warnick, partner at Hoffman Warnick. Warnick added that: "this result indicates that Tech Valley is not just a two horse show any more, there are a lot of high technology companies here that are becoming more active, investing in research and development. These patents are the proof."

The "Patent of the Quarter" is chosen to illustrate firsthand the creativity of Tech Valley inventors. This quarter, the POQ is awarded to: US Patent No. 7785657 issued to San Ming Yang and Michael LoCasio for a "Nanostructured layers, method of making nanostructured layers, and application thereof." The patent issued August 31, 2010. The patent is assigned to Evident Technologies, which is a client of Hoffman Warnick.
