Thomas Jefferson University Student Elected Regional Representative for Leading Student Pharmacy Association
PHILADELPHIA, PA (02/17/2012)(readMedia)-- Hazel Atienza, a second-year student at Thomas Jefferson University's Jefferson School of Pharmacy (JSP), was recently elected Regional Member-at-Large for the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP). Each year, eight students are elected Regional Members-at-Large in the United States.
The APhA was the first national professional society of pharmacists. It remains the largest association of pharmacists in the U.S., with more than 60,000 practicing pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, student pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and others interested in advancing the profession. The association provides a forum for discussion, consensus building and policy setting for the profession of pharmacy.
The Academy of Student Pharmacists is the student arm of the APhA. Its mission is to be the collective voice of student pharmacists, providing opportunities for professional growth, improving patient care and envisioning and advancing the future of pharmacy.
Ms. Atienza's responsibilities on the eight-member APhA-ASP Reference Committee will include assisting in the coordination and convening of the society's regional caucus, coordinating student membership and promoting APhA-ASP Patient Care Programs and International Student Exchange Program to the chapters in the region.
