Three from Lexington receive Senior Prizes at Wellesley College Commencement

WELLESLEY, MA (05/30/2012)(readMedia)-- Three Wellesley College graduates from Lexington were awarded Senior Prizes at the College's commencement ceremony on Friday, May 25. A total of 66 senior prizes were awarded to this year's graduating class of over 600.

Mika Edgerly, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Economics, received two awards, the The Natalie Bolton Faculty Prize in Econometrics, which is awarded for an outstanding paper in economics as designated by the faculty, and The Maria Luisa Bombai Prize in Spanish, which is awarded each year in memory of the great Chilean novelist to a student who has distinguished herself in the field of Latin American literature.

Anisha Vachani, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, received The Natalie Bolton Faculty Prize in Economics, which is awarded for an outstanding paper in economics as designated by the faculty.

Sohini Sarah Pillai, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Studies and South Asian Studies, was awarded the The Wellesley College Theatre Award, which is awarded to the graduating student whom the faculty of the theatre department regards as having made a truly outstanding contribution to the life and work of both the department and the Wellesley College theatre production activities. Pillai is also a 2012 Fulbright Scholar; she will travel to India to conduct research on how the performing arts in India, specifically, different theatrical versions of the ancient epic poem The Ramayana, can promote positive messages of pluralism and harmony.
