CAZENOVIA, NY (03/22/2012)(readMedia)-- The Cazenovia College Art Gallery in Reisman Hall will host the annual Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibitions from March 13 through May 1. The exhibition will include work by visual communications, studio art, photography and interior design degree candidates from Cazenovia College's Division of Art and Design.
Tom Poitras, of Rochester, N.Y., is a senior majoring in studio art, specializing in glass glowing and flame-working. He will show his work in an exhibition titled: e.the.re.al, from April 12 to 15, with a reception scheduled for April 12 at 6:30 p.m.
Poitras began his art career doing graffiti and then discovered his passion to create. This led him to Cazenovia College, where he was exposed to new people, ideas and mainly new artistic processes such as woodworking, welding, glass fusing and flame working. During this time Poitras also found a connection between his designs and mathematical sequences that he uses. He has always found an attraction to processes dictated by the intimacy of working with his hands and natural materials. He says that glass flame working allows him to be constantly searching a limitless endeavor, and that although he has his favorite pieces the thrill of the next creation is what urges him to continue.
In his artist's statement, Poitras writes, "Don't believe what you might have read. You'll see all of what I might not have said."
The Cazenovia College Art Gallery in Reisman Hall, 6 Sullivan St., is on the corner of Sullivan and Seminary streets in Cazenovia.
