Top Iowa State Fair Fast Foods Cook Crowned

DES MOINES, IA (08/20/2010)(readMedia)-- Proving that delicious food can be prepared in a short amount of time and with little fuss, Phil Dicks of Knoxville won First Place Overall in the Cooking Fast, Healthy and Tasty competition judged Wednesday at the 2010 Iowa State Fair.

Dicks' Nutella Quick and Easy 1-2-3 Minute Cracker Melts claimed the top prize in the competition that rewarded recipes that were easy to prepare and cost conscious.

Ginger Johnson of West Des Moines won Second Place Overall with Sweet Tarts and Healthy Hearts and Judy Jordan of Des Moines earned Third Place Overall with Stir Fry Honey BBQ Chicken.

Entries were judged on creativity, taste, appearance and ease of preparation.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. Food Department judging is held in the recently-renovated Elwell Family Food Center sponsored by Blue Bunny.

"Non Stop Fun" at the Iowa State Fair runs through August 22. The Fairgrounds are located at East 30th and East University Avenue, just 10 minutes east of downtown Des Moines, and are open 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. each day of the Fair. Exhibit hours may vary.
