SCHENECTADY, NY (03/11/2013)(readMedia)-- A new scholarship will be presented to a graduating senior at Schenectady High School each year, thanks to the generosity of Antonio Civitella, president & CEO of Transfinder in Schenectady. Transfinder, a leader in student transportation management systems and services, is offering an annual scholarship of $1,000 to a Schenectady High School senior in memory of Civitella's father, Celeste (Raffaele) Civitella who migrated from Italy in 1978. Civitella settled in Schenectady where his two children, including Antonio, attended Schenectady schools.
"Education was so valued by my father that naming this scholarship in his honor represents the best testament we can make to his memory," said Civitella. "Transfinder is committed to offering this scholarship annually to a deserving senior willing to major in the demanding subjects of math and computer science."
Celeste Civitella passed away just one year ago on March 12. By endowing this scholarship in his father's name, Civitella said he is carrying on his father's memory and providing a Schenectady High School graduate with the same college-bound opportunity his father gave him.
"We are extremely grateful to Mr. Civitella for the generous award and his commitment to education in Schenectady," said Larry Spring, Superintendent of Schenectady City Schools. "This award not only provides financial support to one of our students but it carries with it a great legacy and special story."
The award will be presented to a graduating senior with a grade point average of 3.5 or above who has been accepted into a computer science program at an accredited college in the U.S. and will major in computer science. It will be presented at the annual Senior Awards Celebration.
