Transit Awareness Day - Invest in Transit. Keep New York Moving!

ALBANY, NY (02/23/2009)(readMedia)--

The economic crisis has created an unprecedented situation for the public transit industry in New York State. Ridership is increasing as people turn to public transportation to help ease their economic burdens. At the same time, a stalled housing market, fluctuating gas prices and growing State budget deficits are resulting in fare increases, service reductions and delayed capital improvements in transit agencies, large and small, throughout the State. It has never been more important for the transportation community to have a strong voice and presence in Albany.

On March 2, transit agencies and stakeholders gather in the LOB for Transit Awareness Day. The day will include meetings with lawmakers and a full-day of industry displays in The Well representing transit agencies, riders, labor, environmental interests, business partners and the disability community.

The exhibit show is from 11:00 am to 4:30pm; and the Wrap Up & Recognition will be from 4:30pm to 5:00pm in The Well.
