ALBANY, NY (11/18/2011)(readMedia)-- The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has announced the right lane of the ramp carrying Interstate 787 northbound to Interstate 90 westbound in Albany will be closed for bridge repairs until early next year.
Recent inspections revealed a leaking bridge joint had allowed water to enter two concrete piers supporting the ramp, causing deterioration to the steel reinforcement. The ramp immediately was reduced to one lane to ensure safety for the traveling public while NYSDOT evaluated necessary repairs.
Repairs which are now under way, entail the installation of vertical steel columns around the two pier columns to support the weight of the ramp. The work, performed by Harrison & Burrowes Bridge Constructors, Inc. of Glenmont, is expected to cost an estimated $300,000 and be completed by early next year.
