I-84 Westbound to Close This Weekend for Bridge Replacement Work

ALBANY, NY (09/20/2013)(readMedia)-- The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) today advised motorists that the bridge carrying Interstate 84 westbound over Dingle Ridge Road in Southeast, Putnam County, will be closed to traffic beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, through the afternoon of Sunday, September 22.

Traffic will be detoured onto Route 6 at Exit 1 in Connecticut and diverted back onto I-84 at Exit 20 in New York.

During the closure, the existing bridge will be demolished and a new bridge, which was built next to the existing structure, will be slid into place as part of a $10.2 million bridge replacement project.

Dingle Ridge Road under I-84 will close today and will remain closed through Wednesday evening.

Traffic impacts along the Route 6 detour are expected to be significant. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

More information about the project, including a time-lapse video, can be found at www.dot.ny.gov/NYI84CT.
