HALFMOON, NY (08/29/2008)(readMedia)-- Sandy Treadwell, Republican, Independence and Conservative Party candidate for the 20th Congressional District, issued the following statement today regarding the announcement that presidential candidate Senator John McCain has selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential nominee.
"Sarah Palin is a popular and highly respected governor who has a proven record as a strong fiscal conservative and is a great leader of her state. She ran on a platform of bringing reform to Alaska and is an excellent choice to bring change to Washington. I credit Senator McCain for choosing a highly qualified person to be his running mate.
"As the people of the 20th CD learn more about Governor Palin, I know they will be impressed by what she has accomplished. Raised in a small town, she shares many of the qualities and experiences of people in this district, including being a working mother of five children, an avid sportswoman, a strong believer in Second Amendments rights, and an advocate for domestic drilling in order to lower high energy costs for American families.
"This is an historic day for the Republican Party in naming its first female vice-presidential candidate in history. I am honored to be on the ticket this November with John McCain and Sarah Palin. The Republican Party has a strong team that appeals to all Americans who want a more responsive government and change in the "politics as usual" approach to governing.
"This has truly been an historic few days. Last night, the Democratic Party nominated Barack Obama to be their candidate for the office of the President of the United States. It is an important milestone in our nation's history and a testament to the continued promise of the American dream. I congratulate him on this achievement, though I strongly support the McCain-Palin ticket.
"It was unfortunate that Senator Obama chose to start his general election campaign with intensely personal and negative attacks on an American hero, John McCain. As a prisoner of war, Senator McCain lived through hell in service to our country and any suggestion that he lacks the fortitude to capture Osama Bin Laden is cynical and beneath Senator Obama. It is also appalling that the Obama campaign has already unleashed a vicious and unwarranted attack on Sarah Palin - this is the same ugly politics that Obama claims to be against, yet his actions once again tell a different story."
