Tuttle Brings SCAC Individual Title Back to Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, TX (05/08/2012)(readMedia)--  BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Daniel Tuttle, a Georgetown High School graduate, gave the Southwestern men's track and field team their first SCAC Individual Champion since 2008 with a win in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.46. Two more SU records fell for the men as they finished in sixth place with 50.50 points, their highest finish since 2008.

Tuttle also scored points for the Pirates in the 400 hurdles, winning second place with an SU record time of 55.83 and third place in the triple jump with a season best bound of 12.89. For his efforts he was honored with All-SCAC honors in all three events.

Sam Martinez ran a great race in the 5000 meter run, taking second place to earn All-SCAC honors. His time of 15:44.33 was just seven seconds off the winning time. Philip Davis finished in 18:11.40, a season best, for 20th place in the event.

The SU speedsters of Zach Anglin, Lando Duarte, Alex Sheppard and Tuttle joined forces to take third place in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:29.17, earning All-SCAC honors. Duarte brought the Pirates back into contention in the race after SU fell behind, passing several runners before handing off to Tuttle at the anchor who took the batton in 5th and passed two teams to bring the Pirates into third.

Paden Williams posted a 12th place finish in the 1500, finishing in 4:11.43 and just six seconds out of earning points for the Pirates.

Zach Anglin, Xi Wu, Alex Sheppard and Ryan Huiszoon captured seventh place in the 4x100 relay, ending in a season best time of 44.95, seven-tenths of a second out of second place and a second and a half faster than their seed time.

Joseph Quintero posted another SU record in the discus with a toss of 31.76 meters, placing 12th in the event.

The Pirates end the 2012 season at the Championships. With a large group of young talent the future looks bright for Coach Larrieu Smith and the Pirates.
