UNM-Valencia Acting Class Presents 'The Great Theatre of the World'

Event Set for March 22

LOS LUNAS, NM (03/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Playwright Pedro Calderón de la Barca's "The Great Theatre of the World" will be presented by the UNM-Valencia Acting Foundations class on Thursday, March 22nd, on the UNM-Valencia Campus.

Considered an allegorical religious play, it will be presented at 12 noon in the Student-Community Center located on the south side of the campus. The event is one of several that will be held this year at UNM-Valencia in celebration of the State of New Mexico's Centennial.

Suitable for all ages, the production includes traditional music and dance with period costuming. De la Barca's play is considered part of the legacy that influences New Mexico's cultural heritage.

De la Baca was born in 1600 in Madrid, Spain, at a period in Spanish history when the Spanish Golden Age of theatre was being defined. He developed it further, and his work was regarded as the culmination of the Spanish Baroque theatre. De la Baca is regarded as one of Spain's foremost dramatists, as well as one of the finest playwrights of world literature.

This play is one of several events of the UNM-Valencia Spring 2012 Cultural Enrichment Series. It is produced by the UNM-Valencia Office of Academic Affairs, Adjunct Instructor Dawn-Marie Lopez and the students of the acting class.

The event is free and open to the public. UNM-Valencia Campus is located 30 miles south of Albuquerque. For more information about the event, call 505-925-8970.
