University of Minnesota Student William Hagestad to Give Lecture to Information Security Systems Association

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (04/15/2011)(readMedia)-- University of Minnesota Master of Science in Security Technologies (MSST) student, William Hagestad, will give a presentation on "Chinese Cyber Threats" at Ohio's Information Systems Association (ISSA) meeting on Wednesday April 20th.

Hagestad's presentation will include an in-depth look at China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) cyber warfare initiatives, including the 8 pillars of the PLA Cyber Warfare strategy, their use of Global Command and Control Systems (GCCS) and China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam (CKJV) programming as it pertains to attacking critical infrastructure, social media, foreign M&A activity, exfiltration of intellectual property, data breaches and successful attacks in the cloud.

In addition, since matriculating in the MSST program, Hagestad has been asked to speak on similar topics. He has recently spoken at the Cyber Warfare 2011 conference in London, England; and the University of Nebraska, Kearney. In June and July he will be presenting at a Cyber Warfare Online Conference for Defense IQ.

Hagestad will be graduating from the Master of Science in Security Technologies this summer. This will be his second master's from the University of Minnesota's Technological Leadership Institute. In 2001, he received a Master of Science n Management of Technology. Hagestad is a Lt. Col. in the U. S. Marine Corps and his personal decorations include the Navy Achievement Medal with Gold Star, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Operation Iraqi Freedom Medal with single campaign star, and the Selected Marine Corps Reserve with 4 stars.
