CHESTERTOWN, MD (04/16/2013)(readMedia)-- Washington College is pleased to announce that Valerie Dunn '15 of Westminster, MD recently played the role of Mute in Washington College's production of The Fantasticks, a senior drama thesis directed by Lauren Oswald '13.
The Fantasticks tells the story of a young couple in love as they deal with the imposing wall that separates them and the feud between their fathers. Originally produced in 1960, the musical, which features such well-known songs as "Try to Remember" and "They Were You," played for 17,162 performances before closing on January 13, 2002, making it the longest-running production in the history of the stage and one of most frequently produced musicals in the world.
Dunn is double majoring in English and drama and minoring in creative writing. On campus, she is a spokesperson for the Writer's Union, assistant artistic director of the Independent Playhouse and a staff writer for The Elm and The Collegian. A graduate of Winters Mill High School, Dunn has received a Jacoby Endowment Grant and is a member of the Douglass Cater Society of Junior Fellows.
