Victory for All Consumers: Common Cause/NY on Charter Communications Merger

NEW YORK, NY (07/27/2018) (readMedia)-- Today, the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) revoked its earlier approval of a merger between Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable.

In response, Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY, issued the following statement:

"The PSC decision to revoke approval of Charter's Time Warner cable acquisition is a victory for all New Yorkers. As Common Cause/NY warned in opposing the merger, the merged entity had little incentive to satisfy the requisite public interest standard and clearly did not take its obligations to provide broadband access seriously. The PSC's action today puts companies on notice that, at least in New York, they cannot blithely accept conditions in order to gain merger approval and then flaunt their public obligations. Today, the consumers won."
