Renowned French violinist Christophe Poiget will perform alongside pianist Eugenia Tsarov at The Crane School of Music on Oct. 12.

POTSDAM, NY (10/04/2012)(readMedia)-- Renowned French violinist Christophe Poiget will travel to SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music to perform alongside Professor of Piano Eugenia Tsarov next week. The recital will be offered at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 in the Sara M. Snell Music Theatre at Crane.

This violin-piano duo recital will feature works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert, Piotr Tchaikovsky and Johannes Brahms. This event is free, and the public is invited to attend.

About the artists:

Christophe Poiget started his musical studies at the Conservatoire d'Orléans, from which he graduated with a unanimous first prize with high honors and the city's medal. After obtaining first prizes at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris in violin and chamber music, he worked closely with Jean-Pierre Wallez, Dominique Hoppenot, Boris Gutnikov and received additional training from Henry Szeryng, Nathan Milstein and Yehudi Menuhin. He went on to garner the first prize in the International Abbado Competition, the jury prize in the Sion Competition and the prize for French music in the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition.

As a laureate of the Menuhin Foundation in 1986, his solo career took him on tour across the world, visiting the United States, Japan, Russia, Finland and South America. He participated in numerous radio and TV broadcasts under such conductors as Armin Jordan, Hikotaro Yasaki and Pascal Rophé. His interest in all styles of music has led him to perform a vast repertoire, from baroque on period instruments to the great works of the 18th and 19th centuries. An ardent promoter of contemporary music, he was invited four times to Radio France's Festival Présences, and Ø. Sandred's "Cracks and Corrosions" for quartet and tape was written for him to perform alongside the Philippe Hersant Trio. Poiget recently recorded Chausson's Concerto, Franck's Quintet and Messiaen's "Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps."

A passionate pedagogue, Poiget holds positions at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, as well as at the Conservatoire de Boulogne Billancourt. In this capacity, he is often invited by the Ministry of Culture to adjudicate the Certificat d'Aptitude and the Diplôme d'Etat and to oversee the continuing education of teachers.

He was the artistic consultant for the 1992 French movie "Un Coeur en Hiver," for which he collaborated closely with director Claude Sautet and assisted Emmanuelle Béart in preparing for her role as a violin virtuoso.

Eugenia Tsarov is a renowned Russian-born pianist, who earned her diploma with distinction from the St. Petersburg State Conservatory of Music, and previously taught piano and chamber music at the Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow for 18 years. In 1968, she won the prestigious Soviet National Piano Competition and was appointed pianist of the Moscow State Philharmonic Society, the most prestigious concert management organization in Russia. Since immigrating to the U.S. in 1991, Tsarov has continued her performing career with three tours of Spain, concerts at the United Nations and the Merkin Concert Hall in New York City, along with performances throughout the Northeast, Texas, Vermont and Canada. Since 1994, Tsarov has been teaching studio piano, "The Art of Accompanying" seminar and chamber music at The Crane School of Music, while maintaining a busy schedule of workshops and masterclasses.
