WAMC Helps People In Need And Prevents Pollution in One Day Drive

ALBANY, NY (10/22/2019) (readMedia)-- ALBANY, N.Y. (10/22/2019) WAMC/Northeast Public Radio's October Fund Drive mobilized listeners to help provide meals to families in need and also help aid in the reduction of carbon pollution.

WAMC ended the Fund Drive on 10/22/19 at 7:15 a.m., raising $1 million. WAMC started the drive on Monday, October 21st with $700,000 already pledged in a record-breaking Locked Box, which allowed the listener-supported network reach its $1 million goal early on October 22nd.

WAMC partnered with The Seymour Fox Memorial Foundation and The Food Pantries for The Capital District. With each pledge to the station, The Seymour Fox Foundation helped The Food Pantries provide food for a family of four through the winter months. Alan Chartock, WAMC President and CEO, says: "We have the most amazing listeners, supporters, and volunteers. Everyone came together to make sure we keep this station going. I cannot thank them enough."

"It is always humbling to see our WAMC community come together to support the radio station as well as food pantries in our region. In concert with the Seymour Fox Memorial Fund, we were able to provide 600 area families of four meals for three months through the Food Pantries for the Capital District. It proves the love and togetherness we feel as a community entity," says Joe Donahue, WAMC Roundtable host/Senior Advisor.

The Adirondack Council also donated Carbon Reduction Certificates to supporters of the drive. Donors to this initiative will keep 200 tons of carbon pollution out of the atmosphere.

WAMC is proud to work with these wonderful local organizations during its drives, and will continue to shed light on the great work they do. Fundraising primarily occurs three times a year: February, June, and October. Each drive has a $1 million goal to support the general operations of WAMC/Northeast Public Radio.
