WAMC Helps People In Need And raises $1 Million

ALBANY, NY (06/06/2018) (readMedia)-- WAMC/Northeast Public Radio's June Fund Drive raised $1 million to help the community and ensure that WAMC will stay on the air. This $1 million drive ended at 12:29 p.m. with a grand total of $1,001,410.

"This was really fun. It was great to see all the WAMC'ers getting together once again and proving how important this station is to so many people. That affirmation was given in virtually every pledge. It was a great fund drive" said Dr. Alan Chartock, WAMC's President and CEO. WAMC helped to provide 330 people with 3 months of personal hygiene products, 500 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to help children be prepared for the upcoming school year, and fresh produce for 3,300 individuals and families throughout the region.

The Adirondack Council retired 153 tons of carbon, accelerating the rate of carbon pollution cleanup.

"WAMC community spirit was alive and well as our listeners came together to support our station. With help from amazing partners like the Seymour Fox Memorial Foundation, NYSUT, and the Adirondack Council we sponsored a summer produce program, a personal hygiene product drive and donated backpacks filled with school supplies for children in need. The compassion, love and empathy shown by our listeners knows no bounds. We are forever grateful." said Joe Donahue, Senior Director of News and Programming.
