ALBANY, NY (11/23/2016)(readMedia)-- This November 29, WAMC Northeast public Radio has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
WAMC listeners know the importance of philanthropy in our communities. Through WAMC'S Community Partnerships, our listeners have impacted thousands of people across our listening area. This past year, we've provided 94,000 pounds of food and three months of food to over 1,000 families in need through The Food Pantries of the Capital Region; 669 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to children through the Kids in Need Foundation; 1,659 books for children in collaboration with Reach Out and Read; and over 1,500 nights of shelter with Joseph's House to the homeless.
