ALBANY, NY (10/02/2013)(readMedia)-- (ALBANY, NY OCTOBER 2013) - WAMC Northeast Public Radio completed another successful fund drive, raising over one million dollars in ten days, thanks in part to funds in the locked box that were donated to the station before the fund drive even began. The early donation "Locked Box" Campaign was created last year to reduce the time span of the on-air fund drive by soliciting donations prior to the official start of each fund drive. The station raised a total of $1,001,558.47 from phone and online pledges coming in from the communities we serve and online.
"There aren't enough superlatives that the staff can use in describing how grateful we are to the listeners and members of WAMC," said Alan Chartock, WAMC Northeast Public Radio's President and CEO. "Once again, they came through in record time and with their usual style and panache."
The Fund Drive began at 6 a.m. Monday, September 23rd, with dedicated WAMC members calling in and pledging online all day. The support of these listeners helped the station reach daily and hourly goals that lead to the station's success. Many friends and businesses of the station stepped up with challenge pledges to help increase the amount of money raised. The station welcomed approximately 900 new members this fund drive.
The station's Albany studios were occupied with volunteers answering phones from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. These volunteers traveled from all over the station's listening area, and generously donated their time and energy to the station's successful fund drive. A majority of these volunteers are fund drive veterans who continue to support the station that has become part of their daily lives. The fund drive presents the opportunity for supporters to see old friends, make new ones and re-connect with the staff.
In addition to thanking all the listeners, members and volunteers, WAMC would also like to thank the hundreds of regional businesses and organizations who donated items, services, and food to the drive. WAMC's fund drives are never possible without the combined efforts of all the contributing sponsors and supporters. All of the items donated are appreciated and received with much gratitude. WAMC's fund drives help support the station's award-winning local and regional reporting, membership to NPR and network programming as well as all of the station's other day-to-day operations.
