WAMC OPENS NEW SOUTHERN ADIRONDACK BUREAU AT SKIDMORE COLLEGE

ALBANY, NY (10/04/2013)(readMedia)-- WAMC Northeast Public Radio, in partnership with Skidmore College, recently opened a new Southern Adirondack news bureau, located on the Saratoga Springs campus.

The bureau will allow WAMC's award-winning news operation to originate reports and cover additional communities in and around the Saratoga Springs / Glens Falls regions, including places like Clifton Park, Lake George, Salem, Bennington, and beyond.

"For many years, our friends, underwriting supporters, and members have been asking for a bureau in this area. And now, thanks to the generosity of our partner, Skidmore College, we're able to deliver," WAMC President and CEO Dr. Alan Chartock says. "We couldn't be more excited to have a stronger presence in the area and to help cultivate new journalists through our ever growing news internship programs."

The Southern Adirondack bureau joins WAMC's roster of bureaus in the Pioneer Valley, North Country, Capital Region, Hudson Valley and the Berkshires.

Lucas Willard, formerly WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief, will take the helm of the new Southern Adirondack bureau at Skidmore College, in addition to serving as WAMC's weekend news anchor. A native of the Saratoga region and graduate of the State University of New York at Fredonia, he also attended the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, where he studied audio and multimedia storytelling. Prior to joining WAMC in 2011, Lucas worked with the Sound and Story Project of the Hudson Valley, the Big Shed Audio Documentary Podcast, the Albany Broadcasting Company, WDVL & WCVF-FM Fredonia, and WSUC-FM Cortland.
