WAMC and North Country Public Radio Collaborate to Host Special Adirondack Roundtable
Live simulcast will focus on issues facing the Adirondack Park
ALBANY, NY (08/13/2025) (readMedia)-- WAMC Northeast Public Radio and North Country Public Radio (NCPR) are working together in a first-time collaboration to co-host a special live event at the High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid, Monday, September 8th. This partnership between public radio stations will focus on issues facing the Adirondack Park, from cross-border trade, to the region's declining population, to tourism and housing issues. The joint-effort is part of WAMC's new initiative WAMC On The Road, which aims to share public radio experiences like The Roundtable with partners and communities throughout its listening area.
"In joining our audiences and standing shoulder to shoulder, we do a better job in helping to connect the dots, and surface solutions to the challenges we face together," added WAMC's CEO and President, Sara Gilbert.
NCPR's Emily Russell and Cara Chapman alongside WAMC's Joe Donahue will dig into the demographic and livelihood challenges facing Adirondackers, from an aging population to a workforce struggling to find affordable housing as well as welcoming questions from their live audience. Russell is NCPR's Assistant News Director, while Chapman handles the Champlain Valley Bureau. Donahue is host of "The Roundtable" and "The Book Show" for WAMC.
"North Country Public Radio and WAMC are two of the most respected journalism outlets in the region," said NCPR Station Manager, Mitch Teich. "Together, our reporters have decades of experience, and we reach tens of thousands of people every day. It just makes sense that we would partner to tell such an important story about global issues that are being felt at home in the North Country. It's an exciting opportunity."
The collaboration of public radio stations is an example of how partnership and cooperation can widen the awareness of regional issues in the face of the announcement that the federal government would claw back over a billion dollars in funding from public media.
The in-person event at High Peaks Resort will be from 9am-12pm. The simulcast will air from 10am-12pm. Tickets for the in-person event are available through WAMC.org and NCPR.org. To find out more information and purchase tickets, please visit http://bit.ly/45r5nPy.
