FULTON, MO (10/28/2010)(readMedia)-- Andrea Weed, a biology and English literature major at William Woods University, has received a scholarship from the Missouri Colleges Fund (MCF) in recognition of her achievements at WWU. Weed was awarded a $1,000 Novus scholarship for, which is for students in a science-related field of study.

Missouri Colleges Funds is an organization that assists private colleges and universities in the State of Missouri by working with private donors to secure scholarship opportunities.

Weed has lived in Kansas City the majority of her life. With family ranking as one of the most important things in her life, Weed found it hard to be far away from home, which lead to her decision to attend William Woods.

As a biology major, Weed sees the advances in scientific technology and puts faith in what medicine can do for people now and in the future. She plans to attend medical school and is leaning towards the field of global health pathology.

Weed makes it a goal to participate in the Doctors Without Border program along with planning a trip to Rwanda in the summer of 2011 to help with a woman's clinic that recently opened.

Campus involvement is something Weed strives to be a part of. She currently holds the position of out-of-house coordinator in her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega. She believes in supporting and assisting with the fight Against Domestic Violence, her sorority's philanthropy.

Weed is also a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society, Biology Club, the Student Alumni Council and the Campus Activities Board. She is also president of the Pre-Medicine club.
