WWU Student Lisa Huntoon Awarded Wacovia Scholarship

FULTON, MO (10/28/2010)(readMedia)-- Lisa Huntoon, an equestrian sciences and business administration major with concentrations in economics and finance, has been awarded the Wacovia Scholarship through the Missouri Colleges Fund.

Missouri Colleges Funds is an organization that assists private colleges and universities in the State of Missouri by working with private donors to secure scholarship opportunities.

Wacovia continued its support of the Missouri Colleges Fund this year with a grant of $24,000. With this grant, 16 need-based scholarships valued at $1,500 were provided for qualified students majoring in accounting, business, economics, finance and related disciplines. The recipients must have a strong academic record and contribute to the college community both on and off campus.

Now living in Kingdom City, Huntoon is a 29-year-old woman, who proudly calls herself a "desert rat" from Chandler, Ariz. She has spent years working for barns and ranches across the globe, including Australia. Her passion for horses is what led her to William Woods University.

"I am a dedicated, hard-working, and resilient person; it's these qualities that have sustained me through even the most difficult times," Huntoon says.

In the past three years, Huntoon has completed her associate of arts degree in computer technology and general studies. She said she began attending college because she decided she "could muck stalls and toss pizzas for the rest of her life or… not."

Huntoon is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Chi honor societies and Delta Epsilon Chi, an organization dedicated to furthering students' experience in business, marketing and advertising. She holds a 4.0 GPA and is looking forward to her graduation in 2011.
