BATAVIA, NY (05/12/2014)(readMedia)-- Warsaw, NY- The Warsaw Campus Center of Genesee Community College is pleased to announce the Spring 2014 Student and Instructor of the Semester. Each semester, one student and one instructor at each campus center are awarded the honor for outstanding academic or teaching performance.

Stephen Wise has been awarded the Instructor of the Semester at Warsaw for Spring 2014. Wise, who retired from the Greece, NY police department in 2009 is the director of Campus Safety at GCC. Prior to joining the College in May 2013 he served as director of Safety and Security for the Churchville-Chili Central School District.

Wise taught "Administration in Criminal Justice" at the Warsaw Campus Center. In nominating him to be honored as Instructor of the Semester, students commented that "He is a great teacher; makes the class very fun but also teaches us a lot about criminal justice." Students appreciated the examples, both personal and professional that he utilized to make the material more interesting. "I looked forward to class every week," one student said. Another noted, "Anyone who is looking to take his class will not only learn a lot but have a great time learning what he has to teach."

Christopher Foegen is the Student of the Semester for Spring 2014 at the Warsaw Campus Center. Christopher, 19, lives in North Java and was homeschooled, earning his high school diploma in 2010. He came to GCC because of "the opportunity to get an education at a much lower cost than a 4-year school."

Foegen is studying Computer Systems Networking and his instructors commend his "outstanding work ethic and desire for learning." They also note that he is "very respectful to students and staff." His class participation is described as outstanding.

Christopher says he has enjoyed getting to know other students and the faculty at GCC. Once he completes his GCC degree, he plans to continue his coursework at a 4-year school. He dreams of one day heading up his own software company

"It's always an honor and a pleasure to recognize these outstanding individuals," said Patty Chaya, associate dean of the Warsaw Campus Center. "They serve as an example of the excellence we strive for daily and are an inspiration to all."
