'Welcome Home' Ceremony for Finance Detachment to Be Held This Weekend

RALEIGH, NC (11/05/2010)(readMedia)-- An official welcome home ceremony that will recognize the 29 Soldiers of the North Carolina Army National Guard's 113th Financial Management Detachment, 130th Financial Management Company, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Joseph S. Koury Convention Center, located at 3121 High Point Road in Greensboro, N.C. 27407.

The detachment, headquartered in Siler City, N.C., deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in October 2009. They provided financial management support for Soldiers at an airbase north of Baghdad and five outlying bases. The Soldiers provided check cashing, electronic banking, setting up allotments, and financial advising. The 113th also disbursed over $35 million to U.S. pay agents for civil service projects, small business loans and various other aid missions. The detachment returned to North Carolina on Aug. 19.

The unit is one of the last North Carolina National Guard units to deploy for Operation Iraqi Freedom. With the end of combat operations, Soldiers deploying to aid Iraq's people and government will fall under operation New Dawn.

In 1997, as the 113th Finance Detachment, the unit deployed to Germany to support Operation Joint Endeavor. During this deployment, the detachment supported finance missions in Germany, Bosnia and Macedonia until September 1997. They were presented with the Army National Guard Superior Unit Award in 2001. In February 2005, the unit sent a three-Soldier cell to support finance operations in Kosovo and Bosnia.
