West Des Moines Cook Claims Fair Chocolate Sauce Cooking Title

DES MOINES, IA (09/03/2024) (readMedia)-- Brian Keul of West Des Moines won first place and a $250 cash award in the Sunday Night Foods Baking Championship competition judged Friday, August 9, at the 2024 Iowa State Fair.

Anita Van Gundy of Des Moines earned second place and Susan Jones of Winterset claimed third place.

Contestants were challenged to bake a dessert that included at least one jar of Sunday Night Premium Chocolate Sauce.

Entries were judged on taste, creativity and texture.

The Iowa State Fair Food Department is the largest of any state fair in the country. There were 140 divisions, 726 classes and over 6,400 entries at this year's Fair. Food Department judging is held in the Elwell Family Food Center.
