BATAVIA, NY (10/17/2018) The days are getting shorter and the nights longer. The wind seems to howl as it blows autumn gusts instead of summer breezes. And Halloween decorations are all around us. Together, these facets of the changing seasons conjure questions about paranormal phenomenon and haunted tales. To satisfy that mysterious itch and twitch, the BEST Center (Business and Employee Skills Training) at Genesee Community College has opened registration to "A Course in the Paranormal," the first of its kind.
This course will take place over a series of four Monday night sessions each exploring different phenomena. Routed in the fields of archaeology, anthropology, folklore, history, architecture, occultism, philosophy and parapsychology, this course opens the mind to the unexplainable. "A Course in the Paranormal" culminates with a look at the local patterns and spooky stories around Western New York.
The cost for the course is $129 per student and the sessions will take place on Mondays, November 12 and 26 and December 3 and 10, 2018 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in room T119 of the Conable Technology Building on GCC's Batavia campus. Register by November 5, 2018 at https://www.genesee.edu/best/.
"A Course in the Paranormal" will be taught by Mason Winfield, a researcher and supernatural historian who studied English and Classics at Denison University, earned a Master's degree in British literature at Boston College, and studied poetry and fiction at SUNY Buffalo. He has written/edited 12 books, including the regional sensation, Shadows of the Western Door and Iroquois Supernatural. He is a veteran of many TV, radio, and venue appearances including the Lily Dale Assembly, NBC's Today Show and Legend Hunters. He is the founder of Haunted History Ghost Walks, Inc. which offers tours, lectures and events based on history, architecture, folklore and parapsychology.
