PATCHOGUE, NY (07/30/2008)(readMedia)-- The Republican candidate for New York's First Congressional District today voiced more concern over his opponent's latest half -hearted effort to make an impact on the rise of 21st Century energy challenges.
"To reduce our reliance on foreign oil, we must use more domestic oil resources and transition to alternative energy as soon as possible, said Lee Zeldin, the GOP candidate for the Eastern Long Island District. "Tim Bishop hasn't committed to anything close to resembling a solution and the people of Eastern Long Island continue to demand answers. Today's call by Bishop for a commission to give him advice on energy policy is another example that he lacks any vision on this issue.
"My opponent criticizes the use of federally leased lands even though 2007 produced a substantial increase in supply and demand of natural gas," said Zeldin. "We need a leader that is willing to lead, willing to find solutions. This 'too little, too late' legislation does nothing to address these pressing issues."
Bishop has already blocked the American Energy Act from being voted on which has the support to pass. Bishop still has an opportunity this week to let the American Energy Act be voted on by Congress. This will be Congress' final opportunity to pass any real energy legislation before the start of their undeserved August vacation.
Zeldin has accepted a standing invitation for a 30- minute energy policy debate on WRIV radio during Congressional recess, Aug. 6, which would provide Bishop a platform to explain his stance. While Bishop continues to avoid Zeldin's challenges, numerous other Congressional Democrats have found time to participate in debates.
